Sussex Development Corporation Celebrates Completion of New Tulls Creek Elementary School

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Marks Opening of New 124,000-Square-Foot Facility in Currituck County

MOYOCK, N.C. — Sussex Development Corporation, Design Build Contractor behind the new Tulls Creek Elementary School, joined Currituck County leaders, school officials, and community members on June 30 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the new facility.

Built on a 36-acre rural site in Moyock, the new elementary school was delivered through a design-build process in which Sussex Development led every phase of the project, from early concept and design through turnkey construction. The facility was designed to accommodate 800 students with a 950-student core capacity, giving Currituck County Schools room to grow.

The project required extensive coordination with county and state agencies and included the construction of new roads, parking areas, and drop-off loops, along with stormwater management systems, playgrounds, athletic areas, and a septic system to support the rural site.

Inside, the school features a full-size gymnasium with a stage, a commercial kitchen, an emergency generator, and a fully sprinklered fire suppression system supported by a dedicated fire pump. Sussex Development also delivered a complete furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) package, along with all technology and security systems, through coordinated design, competitive procurement, and full installation.

The project was completed in partnership with Currituck County as owner and Boomerang Design as architect of record. Sussex Development managed the full scope of work.

Tulls Creek Elementary is expected to welcome students for the 2026–2027 school year.
